Now offering franchise opportunities globally, they continue to expand and offer their delicious experience to more Sumo Super Fans everywhere.
We had an exclusive interview with Darami Coulter, Global Marketing & Communication Manager of Sumo International Inc./Sumo Sushi & Bento.
Can you tell us something about the history of Sumo Sushi & Bento in Dubai ?
Sumo Sushi & Bento is a homegrown UAE brand, we have been in Dubai and the GCC since 2000, where we opened our first outlet on Sheikh Zayed Road. We’ve been providing the GCC with a unique family friendly, authentically fun Japanese dining experience. Sumo offers quality food at affordable prices.
We serve a great mix of menu items, not only traditional sushi, but also bento boxes, noodle dishes and signature sushi options created over the years by our Executive Chef’s Tako Rinthiasong and Glenn Sebastian. All of our recipes, even our sauces are propriety and custom made in our kitchens.
Is sushi healthier than other food ?
If you are asking if sushi is healthier than a cheeseburger, yes, definitely! There are many choices and options for sushi, a large majority of our sushi, especially sashimi is very healthy. A lot of sushi is also made with cucumbers and avocados which have incredible health benefits. As with many menu’s, there are options that are very decadent, but worth the few extra Kcal.
You have “loyalty programs” for your customers?
And a special one for kids ?
We are working on perfecting our Kenji kids club in which kids dine and earn points for rewards. Currently, we offer a Kids Eat Free promotion every Tuesday in every outlet. For each dining adult, one child under 12 can receive a free kid’s meal all day every Tuesday.
Charity is important for Your Company; your staff is involved in special projects?
Sumo Sushi & Bento, as a Company, we believe it is our responsibility to give back. With an emphasis on charity and projects that benefit our communities and the people within them.

In November we are working towards a fundraising initiative for the suffrage of children around the world in partnership with Dubai Cares organization.
You are offering catering services too?
We do offer catering services throughout Dubai. We offer everything from party platter delivery to a live sushi chef at your location with a portable sushi bar to entertain your guests. http://sumosushibento.com/catering/

Yes, our brand is growing rapidly throughout the region, with 14 outlets currently open and another 13 signed to open in the next 3 years. We are still seeking franchisees in Qatar, Kuwait, and other regions of the world such as India, USA and Canada.
You’ll have more openings in the UAE in the near future?
Yes, we will have more openings, currently for the UAE. January next year we will be opening with our newest franchisee in Silicon Oasis and one in Dammam, KSA.
What is the key to your success?

What’s your favorite meal?
My favorite meal is a spicy salmon poke bowl with brown rice. However, the Sweet Potato Crunch roll is a close runner up!
